Welcome Sophie & Russell

Active Farmers would like to introduce Sophie and Russell.

Sophie Doughty was born a city girl but now calls rural Australia home. Like many ex-city girls now living in the country, she moved for love. Since moving she has also found a love for the land and the welcoming, friendly and supportive people living here. Growing up, Sophie couldn’t play enough sport. She knew she definitely wanted a career that revolved around helping people and allowed her to be involved with sport. It was for these reasons that she pursued a career as a physio. Sophie completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney, and since graduating has worked at North Shore Private Hospital, a private practice in Wagga and as a physio for the Australian Army and Airforce. Three years ago she moved to Hay where she started her own physiotherapy business ‘SoPhysio Health’.  Recently she completed her graduate certificate in diabetes education, so is well aware of the increase in and burden of chronic disease, particularly in rural areas. She is excited about starting Active Farmers in Hay, and says there is a definite need for an increase in services that help prevent chronic disease, assist with mental health and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Russell Alexander, is also a physiotherapist and former ICU nurse. Russell studied in Albury and Sydney and has lived in rural Wales and industrial parts of England. He is a long time believer that exercise is therapeutic, and keeps us sane when life is busy and better able to meet the challenges of every day life! He says you will feel better, have more energy and feel less pain.
