Welcome Marliese Heffernan!!!
Joining the Active Farmers Network is a marrying of my two greatest passions - fitness and providing a positive avenue for people to manage and improve their mental health.
With a degree in Social Science, I have worked in the Human Services/Welfare field for the past 15 years. My passion for fitness was born out of the need for some self care from a highly emotive and sometimes very stressful job. It has continued to be a medication of sorts that has helped me to prevent burn out. When it became apparent how beneficial fitness had become for both my mental and physical self I wanted to share the love so decided to study and obtain a Certificate III in Fitness and become a group fitness instructor. I have now been teaching classes in fitness centres for close to 14 years and couldn't imagine life without it!
I now live on my husband's family property just outside Junee with our three boys Arthur, Leo and Reuben. In the 5 years I have been here I have heard many stories, and witnessed first hand, how amazingly well our little communities of Illabo and Eurongilly support each other through tough times. Even though I am blown away by how resilient our little communities are, I believe bringing Active Farmers to our area will help us to continue to support each other and also to live better, healthier lives in an easily accessible way.
Having listened to our local farmers over the years, I often hear of chronic injuries sustained from everyday farming activities. My goal is to bring to our community achievable, functional strength exercises in order to help manage and prevent injury. I am also keen to make this a fun, family friendly affair so that we can role model healthy, active lifestyles for the next generation.
I look forward to seeing everyone (young and old!) for some fun and exercise in Illabo and Eurongilly soon!
